Annual convocation of NIT Silchar held

SILCHAR, June 24 - The 16th convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar was held on Saturday. Degrees were conferred to 932 students from different disciplines of engineering and technology including 40 PhD students at the convocation. Amitrajit Bhattacharjee from the branch of Mechanical Engineering received the Institute Gold Medal for his spending academic performance of 9.86 CPI. Endowment awards were also presented to successful students on the occasion.

In his convocation address, R Subrahmanyam and secretary, Higher Education MHRD Government of India said, �Amidst the unprecedented challenges faced by the world and India in particular in almost all spheres, innovation and interdisciplinary approach is the need of the hour. The students should be ready to face the pressing global problems with an unbiased and innovative bent of mind and an unbiased attitude which will be possible when different spheres of science and technology are married with humanities and most importantly entrepreneurship.�

Gyan Patnaik, Senior Director, IT Behemoth Infosys Limited, was the guest of honour and Dr Soumyabrata Chakrabarty, Head, Microwave Censors Antenna Division of the ISRO, Ahmedabad graced the occasion as the special guest.
