GUWAHATI, June 28 - The Sadou Asom Anganwadi Karmi Sahayika Santha in a memorandum to the Chief Minister has demanded immediate resolution of its long-standing issues.

The demands raised in the memo include raising the status of the anganwadi workers to that of government employees, enhancing the remuneration of Anganwadi workers from the Central government share besides effecting a hike in the remuneration from the State government as well and stopping the practice of retirement of anganwadi workers at the age of 60 until their status is raised to the level of government employees.

The Santha rued that despite repeated appeals to the State government, various pressing grievances of the workers have remained unresolved due to the apathy of the government. The anganwadi workers have been rendering yeomans service to the masses in the matter of children and women welfare, but the unresponsive authorities have failed to acknowledge it and are giving the workers a raw deal. This must stop, it said.
