SHILLONG, April 26 - Election Commission of India has fixed May 28 as the date for the Ampati bye-election in Meghalaya.
State Chief Electoral Officer Fredrick Roy Kharkongor today informed that the last date for filling of nominations has been fixed on May 10.
Scrutiny of papers would be held on May 11 and the withdrawal of papers on May 14.
Counting of votes would take place on May 31, Kharkongor said. The bye poll has been necessitated after former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma won from two seats in the Assembly elections and decided to retain the Songsak seat while giving up Ampati.
