GUWAHATI, June 2 � Amlan Mahanta clinched the 16th edition of PC Borooah First Sunday Chess Tournament title here yesterday. Amlan scored 5.5 points from 6 rounds and remained unbeaten throughout of the tournament, stated a press release.

In the final round, he beat Prodip Bhuyan. Chiraranjan Bhuyan scored 5 points from the same number of rounds and bagged the second position. Nitish Das also scored 5 points but was declared third on the basis of tie-break score. In the U-7 category, Ashlesha Talukdar scored 3 points and claimed first position. Unmilita Pathak got second position and Ashvin Sharma was placed third. In U-9 category, Hridyansh Kashyap and Rishabh Singh were declared first and second while Nihad Islam Hazarika got the third position.

In the U-11 category, Shubhay Agarwala scored 4 points and got first position while Bhuvanesh Dixit and Mridangom Goswami scored 3 points each and got second and third position respectively.

In U-13, Uddipta Kakati got first position by scoring 4 points. Arunabh Gohain and Debanga Kalita scored 3 points to each and got second and third positions respectively.
