By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, Dec 29 - Members of AJYCP burnt the effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Monday to protest against the alleged disparaging remark made by Shah on the martyrs of the Assam Agitation during his speech in Guwahati on Saturday.

Holding placards and shouting slogans against Shah and the BJP, the protesters burnt the Union Home Ministers effigy at the busy Garali area here.

The protesters, led by the Jorhat city unit president (incharge) Debojit Baruah and general secretary Gautam Das respectively, said that any kind of insult on the martyrs of Assam will not be tolerated and people of the State will always fight for their rights and against those who work against the interest of the Assamese society.

The protesters also severely flayed the BJP for bringing in the Citizenship Amendment Act which was against the interests of indigenous people of the State. They further targetted the BJP for reversing the partys stand on big river dam projects and on transferring land to Bangladesh after coming to power at the Centre and in Assam.
