KOKRAJHAR, April 10 - Nearly 1,100 poll personnel, including the polling officers, along with polling materials and security personnel have left for their designated polling stations for conducting the second phase of Assembly elections on Monday.

Under the Kokrajhar district administration, there is one Assembly segment namely 30-East Kokrajhar with 213 polling stations. The administration has identified 48 as critical, 46 as very sensitive, 81 as sensitive and 86 as comparatively safe polling stations.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Madhab Prasad Sharma, who is also the Returning Officer of 30-Kokrajhar East LAC, said that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been checked and randomised on Saturday and all designated polling agents and presiding officers of the polling stations were handed over the required poll materials from 8.30 am on Sunday from the Basic Training Centre, Kokrajjhar.

Altogether, 1,039 officials have been assigned poll duties in the election district here. Besides, some five zonal officers and 18 sector officers have been deployed for the polls, he said.

The DC also said that adequate security measures have been taken in the sensitive and critical polling stations. He added that 10 selected polling stations have been covered under web casting mechanism and video and CCTV coverage would be done in 23 polling stations for smooth conduct of the polls.

The Election Commission of India has provided a 15-seat helicopter at Kokrajhar and the same would be used in the event of any untoward incident, carrying polling and security personnel in the sensitive areas if needed, he said.

He also said that for full-proof security coverage, mobile forces, VDP party and range guard will be deployed for intensive patrolling. Round-the-clock vigil along the border areas, including the inter-State and Indo-Bhutan International border, has been intensified to thwart anti-social elements from carrying out any subversive activities, he said, adding that several Army and SSB units are also deployed in the vulnerable localities for area domination to prevent any movement of militants.

It may be mentioned here that under the Gossaigaon subdivision administration, there are two Assembly segments namely 29-Kokrajhar West and 28-Gossaigaon LACs.

In 29- Kokrajhar West Assembly segment, there are 209 polling stations, out of which, 132 polling stations have been identified as critical. In 28-Gossaigaon Assembly segment, there are 218 polling stations, out of which, 65 have been identified as critical.
