Amid rain, waterlogging Gunotsav begins at Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, April 6 - Amid rain, thundershower and waterlogging, Gunotsav started in Hailakandi district on Wednesday and the headmaster of 151-Rongpur Maktab LP School, Munib Uddin Barbhuiya, was suspended for alleged negligence of duty.

The additional deputy commissioner-cum-incharge of education in Hailakandi, FR Laskar, said that he found the negligence during the preparation of Gunotsav and there were also allegations against the teacher. After preliminary enquiry, he was suspended.

Gunotsav in Hailakandi district is being held in 1,520 schools along with the other districts of the State and more than 500 external evaluators are evaluating the students. The evaluators included the Deputy Commissioners, Police Supers, Mission Director, Secretaries, MLAs and other different categories of officers.

Of the 1,520 schools, evaluation was conducted in 658 schools of Lala, 437 of Katlicherra and 389 schools of Hailakandi education blocks on Wednesday.

The Cachar Deputy Commissioner, S Viswanathan, evaluated Annadacharan Girls� High School. The Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj Pradip Kumar Talukdar evaluated New Town ME School, while Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner, Moloy Bora, evaluated Gulalia MV School. The Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM), Dr P Ashok Babu, evaluated Algapur Maktab School.

The venue of Gunotsav was shifted from at least 60 places to safe areas due to unprecedented waterlogging and damage by severe hailstorm in southern Hailakandi. The venue of Bachairkhal ME School of Hailakandi town was shifted to Rotary Club due to waterlogging in the school.

On the other hand, the district administration has started distribution of relief materials in Lala and Katlicherra blocks among the victims of hailstorm and waterlogging.

Meanwhile, a group of people blocked the PWD road under Tantoo-Niyamatpur gaon panchayat demanding the distribution of relief materials among the victims of waterlogging.
