AMCH to get multi-disciplinary research centre

TINSUKIA, March 16 � To improve the quality of research works in medical science, the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has allotted a package of Rs 6 crore to the Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh.

The package will cover the cost of modern equipment and other necessary facilities for a multi discipline research centre (MDRC) and improvisation of the animal house. The college authority has already allotted a compact floor area in one of its newly-constructed buildings for the MDRC in which research works of all the departments of the College will be performed with the new equipment. It may be mentioned that presently the research works of different departments are being performed in respective departments. Out of total Rs 6 crore, an amount of Rs 82 lakh has been segregated for the improvisation, renovation of the aged old existing Central Animal House.

But the recently meeting held of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) of the college held on March 6 and presided by the chairman of the committee and principal of the college, Prof Atindra Kr Adhikari has adopted resolution that instead of renovating the old building, with the same amount, a new Animal House with modern concept should be constructed and in this matter the principal would take step for the change of project.

The IAEC meeting held in the conference hall of the college was attended by the scientist members including vice principal, Dr JC Gogoi and member secretary of the IAEC, Dr Kalpana Gohain.
