Ambitious schemes by ACA

GUWAHATI, July 18 - The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is going to start the State Cricket Academy from July 22 by conducting a 15-day advanced coaching camp for the U-19 and U-16 players.

Disclosing this in a press conference at the ACA office in Barsapara here today, secretary Devajit Saikia said that recently they have conducted two coaching camps in the month of May and June for U-16 and U-19 players where about 280 players from all over the State were invited. ACA Talent Search Committee members Dhiraj Das and Pranab Baruah were present during the camp to spot talent. Altogether 20�players in the U-19 group and 58 in the U-16 category were spotted from these camps. The players will be called for the advanced coaching camp to be held under the auspices of State Cricket Academy from July 22.

Also present during the occasion were ACA president Romen Dutta, vice president Parikshit Dutta, treasurer Tridib Konwar and joint secretary Kamakhya Saikia.

Regional Cricket Tournament: The State cricket body is planning to organise a cricket championship amongst the cricket playing states of Northeast in order to prepare their teams for the upcoming BCCI tournaments. ACA will organise this tournament immediately after the Independence Day at Barsapara and will invite all the Northeast cricket playing states to participate.

Senior State team preparation: The ACA has invited a first division club of Dhaka, Bangladesh, Surjo Tarun Cricket Club, to play a series of matches against the probables of the senior team. The Dhaka team will visit the city from August 23 to 30 to play five matches. ACA will also send some of the probables to play practice matches in Delhi and Gujarat. The ACA will also organise Challengers Trophy in the month of August where four teams of Assam comprising of players in senior and U-23 probables will feature.

Donation: The State cricket body has decided to give flood relief donation of Rs 5 lakh to the Chief Minister�s Relief Fund.
