Ambedkar birth anniversary at UN

GUWAHATI, April 11 - The Permanent Mission of India to the UN, in association with the Kalpana Saroj Foundation and Foundation For Human Horizon will commemorate BR Ambedkar�s 125th birth anniversary at the UN headquarters on April 13, a day before his birthday.

On the occasion, a panel discussion will be organised on the topic, �Combating inequalities for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals� with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of addressing all forms of inequality for achieving the sustainable development goals.

The vision of Babasaheb Ambedkar to achieve social justice and equality also finds resonance in the core message for the 2030 agenda for sustainable development goals.

Meanwhile, Governor of Assam and Nagaland P B Acharya has expressed his happiness and satisfaction that the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar�s 125th birth anniversary will be observed on April 13, 2016 at the United Nations for the first time, with focus on combating inequalities to achieve sustainable development goals.

The Governor said India should feel proud and happy for this honour as this marks the recognition by the world to his contributions as an architect of the Constitution of the greatest democratic nation of the world, India. He was the voice of the suppressed people of India, Acharya added.
