Amalprova Das� contributions recalled

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced grant of Rs 60 lakh to improve the medical facilities of Harikrishna-Hemoprova-Deviprova Memorial Polyclinic in Panbazar. He also said that he would extend all possible help to the clinic so that it can extend its services to the poor people.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the birth centenary celebration of distinguished Gandhian, social worker and freedom fighter Amalprova Das, he said that the people of Assam are fortunate that Amalprova Das was born on this land. �I often feel that we have not done much to promote the ideologies of Amalprova. But I am ready to help the Kasturba Memorial Trust in whatever way they want,� he added.

Amalprova Das laid the foundation of Assam branch of the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust.

�With her selfless service to the people, Amalprova was able to secure a high position in the hearts of the masses. Deeply inspired by Gandhian ideology, she promoted self-reliance and self-employment,� Gogoi said.

The function was organized today by Sharaniya Ashram, Guwahati with a day-long programme. The valedictory function was held in the premises of Harikrishna-Hemoprova-Deviprova Memorial Polyclinic in Panbazar.

A souvenir was released on the occasion by noted journalist and editor of Dainik Asom Radhika Mohan Bhagawati.

Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Kamal Kumari Baruah. The programme was presided over by noted social activist Hemoprova Kakati.

In his speech, Gautam Bajaj of Brahma Vidya Mandir, said that she won people with her affectionate nature. Dhirubhai Mehta, president of the Kasturba Gandhi Memorial Trust said, �Baideu was an embodiment of simplicity, serenity and sincerity.�

Many cultural activities and competitions were also organized as a part of the birth centenary celebration.
