AMA seeks withdrawal of HC order

By Correspondent

TURA, Nov 7 - The Achik Matgrik Army (AMA), a newly formed militant outfit from the region, has sought the withdrawal of the High Court order asking the Central Government to consider bringing in the Army to control the fast escalating situation in Garo Hills.

In a release sent on Saturday by the Ampati area commander, John Lesly Sangma, said that bring in the Army would escalate the problems in the region.

Did the High Court think that bringing the Army to Garo Hills will bring back peace? This is the wrong decision made by the court. There will be no peace in Garo Hills instead it will bring more violence than we militants (brought) to people, said Sangma.

The outfit added that the situation would become like Manipur where militancy was still out of control despite the presence of the Army.

We request not to bring the Army to Garo Hills, said Sangma, while also threatening the members with dire consequences if innocent lives were lost due to the presence of the Army in Garo Hills.

We will take severe action on those who are involved in this decision even if its the CM of Meghalaya, threatened Sangma.
