Alternative route to airport faces roadblock

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - The State government is constructing an alternative road from Koinadhora to the LGBI Airport at Borjhar and 77 per cent of the work has been completed, the State Assembly was informed today. Work on the road had started in 2008-09.

Later, phase-wise 22.15 km of the alternative road got approval by 2014-15 of which 16.95 km work has been completed.

The remaining 23 per cent work could not be done because the forest department did not give any clearance and the necessary land acquisition could not be done, PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita.

Later, the stretch that fell on forest land was set aside and a different alignment was proposed. A scheme is being prepared for approving this new stretch of 5.20 km.
