NAGAON, Nov 22 � Addressing media persons here recently, Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain said that an alternative State road would be constructed from Chandrapur to Naltali, touching Morigaon, Ambagan, etc., at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore to minimise the heavy rush on the National Highway. The foundation stone of the project will be laid by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi shortly, he added.
Hussain said that though the Centre has put restrictions on jobs, the State Government has decided to offer 52,000 jobs to unemployed youths. Unemployed youths of the State will get access to livelihood means through the project implementation agency which will work at the block level, the minister added.
Hussain added that the requisite land for the Nagaon Medical College, to be established at Mahkhuli, would be handed over by the district authorities within a fortnight. An engineering college will also be established at Rangagara in Nagaon district.
The minister claimed that the law-and-order situation in the State has been improving since 2001, and that the State has been making progress on all fronts.
Regarding corruption in panchayats, Hussain pointed out that the Government now directly transfers money to job card holders through their bank accounts, and that there is no scope of manipulation. He denied that there was any corruption in the distribution of IAY houses.
The minister said that there are various stages to lodge complaints regarding various schemes being implemented at the grassroot level. He urged the people to approach the agencies concerned for the redress of grievances. He said that anybody can lodge a complaint at the panchayat level every Thursday.
Answering a query on the suicide of Pranab Borooah, the minister maintained that the Opposition was creating a hue and cry about it without any basis. Law will take its own course, he said.
