BARPETA, April 2 - Amid frequent incidents of ill treatment and other irregularities, a brilliant student of Madhab Choudhury College in Barpeta lost her life in Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning allegedly due to wrong treatment meted out to her by the doctors in Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College here a few days ago.

Sonali Sarkar, a resident of Gandhinagar in Barpeta town and a student of second semester of the local Madhab Choudhury College, was admitted to Fakharuddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital here on March 28. She was scheduled for a surgery that day due to some complicacy in her gallbladder. The doctors administered her anaesthesia and prepared her for the surgery. But just after the administration of anaesthesia, her health drastically deteriorated compelling the surgeon to put off the surgery and admit her in the ICU. Any kind of medicine did not respond well and the health of the patient deteriorated. She was referred to the GMCH the next day where she ended her life after fighting a strenuous battle for the last six days.

The family of the deceased alleged that excessive and unplanned use of anaesthesia led to the terrible condition of the young girl.
