Alarming rise in unemployed youths in Dhubri

GAURIPUR, July 25 � As per data available from the Dhubri District Employment Exchange office, the number of unemployed graduates in different streams has risen up to 6,531 and the stream-wise registered graduates are Arts - 5,371, Science - 983 and Commerce - 177. The number of undergraduates stands at 10,633, while the number of HSLC passed unemployed has risen to 19,547.

Altogether 861 diploma holders registered their names and are seeking employment. The total number of candidates below the HSLC level stands at 6,788. The figures indicate a very sorry state of affairs, the sources added. The huge number of candidates appearing for three posts of contractural teachers in the provincialised high and higher secondary schools of the district clearly indicates the enormity of the problem. The unrest among the educated unemployed youths poses threat to the social environment of the area which borders Bangladesh and urgent steps are needed to engage them in various fields, the source added.

Satriya dance training: Under the aegis of Sankar-Madhab Sanskritik Kendra, Gauripur and with the support of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Guwahati branch, a 20-day training programme on Satriya dance was opened recently on the premises of Gauripur Kirtanghar.

Opening the training programme, Satriya dance exponent Ghanakanta Bora Barbayan expressed the hope that the programme would help the cultural lovers of western Assam to know better the contributions of Srimanta Sankardev. He also appealed to the trainees and their guardians to be very careful and dedicated to learn the basic principles of the Satriya dance. Under his guidance, 60 trainees of two groups would undergo the training.

The inaugural programme was anchored by Rajib Dutta, secretary of Kritanghar management committee. The programme was attended by hundreds of lovers of Satriya dance.

It may be mentioned here that the Cultural Department, Government of Assam has sanctioned a sum of Rs 30,000 for development of the Sanskritik Kendra, a rare institution in the district of Dhubri which is espousing the ideals of Sankardev and Madhabdev.
