AKRSU demands Koch-Rajbongshi RS candidate

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Jan 19 We have lost faith in the Congress as the party has deprived us of our due rights and its Governments at the Centre and in the State are taking less interest in the ongoing tripartite talks, AKRSU president Biswajit Ray said while addressing a press conference at the Bhakaribhita head office here on Saturday.

Ray demanded resumption of the third round of the tripartite talks with the Government in January itself. Otherwise the AKRSU will go for fresh agitation after February 14, he added.

On the candidature for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha poll, Ray said since Independence, no candidate from the Koch-Rajbongshi community has been fielded for the Rajya Sabha by political parties from the State. He urged the political parties to choose a candidate from the community for the Rajya Sabha, scheduled on February 7.

Ray said that his organisation would support that party which was ready to support the issues of the community at the Centre with commitment. He added that the AKRSU would celebrate the Chilaray Divas centrally at Bijni in Chirang district on February 13 and 14. Ray has called an extended executive body meeting of the AKRSU on January 23 at its head office to decide on the future course of agitation.

Ray also condemned the killing of innocent bus passengers in Kokrajhar district on Friday night by NDFB(S) militants and asked them to refrain from such activities. He demanded adequate compensation for the victims from the Government.
