AKRSU demands Hiteswar Barmans release

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Nov 1 The Hiteswar Barman faction of the AKRSU demanded the early release of their nine workers, including president Hiteswar Barman, who were arrested following the clash at Basugaon by setting a 48-hour deadline from Thursday evening.

After a meeting on Thursday, the organisation decided to call a 36-hour Chirang district bandh on November 4, a 100-hour BTAD bandh on November 8 and an Assam bandh for an indefinite period on November 12 if the demand was not fulfilled, AKRSU general secretary Troilokya Ray said.

Meanwhile, president Biswajit Ray of the rival AKRSU faction has called upon the Hiteswar Barman faction of the AKRSU to remain united in the interest of the community. Biswajit Ray said that Barmans supporters had attacked him at the instigation of some vested interest circles. He also alleged that conspirators had divided the organisation. The student body had split into two rival groups in 2013.

We tried our level best to make Hiteswar Barman realise the conspiracy hatched by a political group. But he failed to understand us, Ray said and regretted the arrest of Hiteswar Barman. Barman was sent to judicial custody along with his supporters after the Basugaon incident. Behind this act, conspirators are involved, Biswajit Ray alleged.
