Akhil�s mother, others arrested

JORHAT, May 23 � More than 200 activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti along with Priyada Gogoi, mother of KMSS general secretary Akhil Gogoi, were arrested today by Jorhat police when they were coming to submit a memorandum to Jorhat Deputy Commissioner at about 3 pm today.

The KMSS members blocked the crossroad near Tarajan mosque for a long time for which Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had to change his route to the Jorhat Circuit House from a function at Sankardev Seminary.

It is to be mentioned here that KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has been conducting an indefinite fast protesting against the mega dam project. The followers of Akhil Gogoi in Jorhat today came out to the AT Road spontaneously protesting against the arrogant decission of the government to construct mega dam at lower Subansiri at the cost of the lives and property of the people of that area.

The presence of Akhil�s mother redoubled the mental strength of the protesters here and they planned to stop Chief Minister at the crossroad while returning form the meeting at Sankardev Seminary.

Talking to the mediapersons, Akhil�s mother said that they would carry on rigourous protest programmes till the government changes its decision. She further said that she would not even hesitate to die in the hands of the government forces while protesting against the mega dam project.

On the other hand, inaugurating the centenery celebration of Sankardev Seminary today, CM Tarun Gogoi declared a package of Rs 50 lakh to the school.
