Akhil�s anti-dam fast continues

GUWAHATI, May 20 � The indefinite hunger strike by the general secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Akhil Gogoi against the mega dams including the Lower Subansiri project continued for the second day today and supporters of the anti-dam protest started indefinite hunger strike in 13 different places of the state from this morning.

A number of prominent persons of the state today visited Gogoi to express their solidarity the movement, while, members of India Against Corruption lit lamps in the area in the evening in support of the movement.

In a statement here, Gogoi asserted that no one would be allowed to exploit the natural resources of Assam. He also said that the NHPC was indulging in anti-Assam acts and only 25 MW free power would be given to the state from the Lower Subansiri project. He said that all sections of people of Assam should oppose the construction of mega dams which would have serious consequences for the North East.
