Akhil to move EC over ministers assets

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 20 Peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi today said that he would move the Election Commission of India highlighting the gross difference between the actual value of assets owned by the ministers and their family members and the one made public.

Gogoi, the general secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS), while alleging that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had not disclosed the real value of her assets, stated that she did not mention many of her assets, including a plot of land near Kaziranga National Park, in the recent disclosure of the list.

Disclosing this at a press conference, Gogoi, said, The list of assets made public does not reflect the real picture. It is a farce and we would move the Election Commission highlighting the difference between the actual value of assets owned by the ministers and their family members and those made public.

He, while presenting ownership documents of some of the assets of Riniki Bhuyan Sarma which did not find mention in the list also insisted on a CBI inquiry into it.

The peasant leader said that the KMSS would continue to fight against corruption and if required the State would witness a Cairo-like situation with a mass uprising against corrupt rulers.

The RTI activist expressed apprehension that money power would be used in an unprecedented manner in the ensuing Assembly election as there has been a tremendous flow of black money in the State.
