Akhil has 52 police cases, Sonowal eight plots

Atul Bora’s annual income rises two-fold, Lurinjyoti has no property

GUWAHATI, March 13: Peasant leader and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi has 52 criminal cases against him, but has been convicted in none so far, according to an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India.

Movable assets of Gogoi, who is contesting from Sivasagar as an independent candidate, are worth Rs 60,497, while that of his wife, who is an assistant professor in Assamese at B Borooah College here, is Rs 18.72 lakh.

The Raijor Dal president has no immovable asset in his name but his wife’s immovable assets include two plots at Golaghat and a house in Guwahati that are worth Rs 82 lakh, according to the affidavit.

However, Akhil has a share worth Rs 10,000 at the Kaziranga Jatiyo Orchid Aru Joiba Boichitra Udyan Samabai Samiti Limited.

As per an affidavit submitted to the ECI, movable assets of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal are worth Rs 1,14,76394, which included investments and bank balances.

Seeking re-election from Majuli, Sonowal inherited four plots in Dibrugarh worth Rs 36.20 lakh. He also has four non-agricultural plots, three in Dibrugarh and one plot at Beltola mouza in Guwahati, measuring 7,200 square feet built-up area that was gifted to him. The total value of these four plots is said to be Rs 64 lakh.

Sonowal also has a house at Dibrugarh and one (1,600 sq ft) at the city’s Jyotikuchi plot – also stated to be gifted. These two houses are said to be valued at Rs 1.02 crore.

AGP president Atul Bora’s annual income rose from Rs 18.64 lakh in 2015-16 to Rs 36.22 lakh in 2019-20. His wife, a government servant, has 32 different term deposits and FDRs and also 17 types of LICs and other such policies.

Bora, seeking re-election from Bokakhat, has four vehicles, including an excavator and his wife owns one. He has an agricultural plot of 37 acres at Golaghat, two non-agricultural plots at Golaghat and Bokakhat and a 1,347 sq feet flat in the city. His immovable properties are worth Rs 93 lakh and that of his wife Rs 38.22 lakh.

Bora also has movable assets of Rs 1 crore and his wife has Rs 1.29 crore.

According to his affidavit, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who is contesting from both Duliajan and Naharkatiya constituencies, has Rs 7.78 lakh cash in hand and the gross value of his movable assets is just Rs 15.61 lakh. Interestingly, he has no property in his name. He, however, has showed Rs 4.88 lakh as income in the financial year 2019-20.
