GUWAHATI, July 20 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today called upon Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to assert his power and bring the police department under his control allegedly loyal to Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking to mediapersons at Guwahati Press Club here, general secretary of the KMSS Akhil Gogoi expressed doubts over the sincerity and impartiality of the police officers entrusted with the responsibility of investigating the July 9 molestation incident. He said that for justice to be done in the case of the molestation victim, the investigating agencies must play a neutral role.

We appeal to Tarun Gogoi to look into the history of all the police officers so that he knows the true colour of the police, said Akhil regretting that because the police department does not follow the dictum of law and dances to the tune of some particular ministers, the State has been pushed into anarchy.

Will justice be done in the molestation case? That is a big question now. The police department is not expediting the investigation into the molestation case. The director of forensic science laboratory has informed us that sample of the video footage has not been received by the lab so far, said Akhil pointing out that all these facts are proof of the slackness and inefficiency of the police force.

The KMSS also demanded of the Chief Minister to take action against Zarir Hussain of News Live for allegedly uploading the video footage on YouTube.

We also request Tarun Gogoi not to criticise the media in general but to take action against the particular media that is at fault, said Akhil.
