Akhil for denotifying Tiger Project scheme

KOHORA, Aug 20 � A massive rally attended by the members of the Krishak Mukhti Sangram Samiti ( KMSS)was held on Sunday at Kohora to protest against the Tiger Project scheme at Kaziranga.

Addressing the gathering of about 2000 people, peasant leader Akhil Gogoi said that the Tiger Project scheme must be denotified in the larger interest of the people of Kaziranga who are mostly dependent on tourism for their basic livelihood. He further said that common people must be made aware of the day-to-day happenings in Kaziranga adding that some of the government officials are misusing funds with the help of some particular NGOs in the name of conservation.

Later Gogoi along with several other like-minded organisations like Greater Kaziranga Surakha Samiti, ATTSA etc., went to the Kohora range office and submitted a memorandum to the range officer to be submitted to the Prime Minister of India, through the director of Kaziranga National Park and demanded immediate de -notification of tiger reserve at Kaziranga and providing the land patta documents to the people residing at fringe areas of Kaziranga since a long time back . It was also decided that existing Eco development committees must be dissolved as suggested by one D Saha from Katha/ Aaranyak and next move of selection in the eco development committee must be made through public hearing.
