Akhil, 5 others get bail

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 28 Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) president Akhil Gogoi was today granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in all the remaining three cases paving way for his release nearly 26 days after his arrest in connection with the Pranab Boro self-immolation case.

The three cases include two registered with the Khetri Police Station and one with the Bharalumukh Police Station.

Gogoi, along with five of his associates, were first arrested on March 2 on charges of hatching criminal conspiracy and abetting suicide (self-immolation of Pranab Gogoi), and was later shown arrest in another nine cases by the investigators. All the six accused have secured bail.

The Court of Justice CR Sarma passed the bail order after hearing counsels of both sides and considering the length of detention of the accused.

With the KMSS leader securing bail in all the cases, he is likely to be released from the Guwahati Central Jail tomorrow.

The Court, while passing the bail order, directed that the accused shall not intimidate any witness and also not interfere with the investigation after his release on bail.

The public prosecutor pressed for imposition of stricter conditions on the accused even as the Court passed the bail order.

Earlier, Gogoi was taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for a medical check-up as was directed by the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Kamrup.
