Akhaura to get integrated check post soon

AGARTALA, June 4 � The Akhaura check post in Tripura would soon get the tag of integrated check post with the Centre asking the State Government to begin construction work by next month.

Secretary of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) AE Ahmed has already visited the check post before going ahead with the project. This will be the fourth well-equipped check post of the country after one along Pakistan border and two along the Indo-Nepal border.

Under the plan, facilities like cargo, warehouse, Custom office, bank and post office will be available in an area spreading over 10 acres of land at the Akhaura area. There will be facility to ensure smooth functioning of bilateral trade.

Talking to media on Wednesday, Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury said that the Centre has already spent a huge amount of fund to boost the infrastructure at the check post.

�The facility will be better or well-equipped when the check post is developed as integrated check post�, he said. Besides, an international level bridge will be constructed in the river Feni to connect Sabroom in South Tripura district with Ramghar in Bangladesh to boost bilateral trade.

�The Bangladesh Government has already given the green signal to go ahead with the proposal of setting up the bridge�, he said adding that the State Government has already placed DPR to execute the plan.

He further said that a long pending issue � setting up of water treatment plant at Sabroom by using the water of river Feni. Earlier, the Bangladesh Government had strongly opposed the project but now the thing started rolling in favour of the State Government.
