DIBRUGARH, Sept 16 - The central committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad (AJYP) today called upon the government to strictly enforce full implementation of the Assamese language in all government and commercial activities in the State. The AJYP general secretary, Udayan Kumar Gogoi said that as per the State Language Implementation Act of 1960, all business and commercial signages in Assam have to be in prominent Assamese lettering.
Gogoi said the citizens of the State have an important role to play in the propagation of the Assamese language, and that all official communication has to be in Assamese. AJYP president, Ujjal Kumar Chutia said strict implementation of Assamese in all spheres of communication has become necessary, and that both the administration as well as the public at large in Assam has to work together towards compulsory acceptance of the Assamese language.
They said that to begin with, all commercial signages in the State have to be in the Assamese language most prominently. They warned that any resistance would not be tolerated.
