AJYCP stages demonstration at GMDA office

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 26 Members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in protest against the alleged failure of the Government to address the civic problems faced by the citizens here.

In a release issued today, the AJYCP maintained that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is turning a blind eye to the problems of Guwahati city, cannot be expected to solve the problems of the people of the entire State.

The Parishad said that the slogan of developed Assam by the Chief Minister is exposed in Guwahati city only after a brief spell of rain. Problems like waterlogging, acute shortage of drinking water, failure of the authorities concerned to ensure disposal of garbage, etc., have made life miserable for the people of Guwahati. The State Government as well as agencies like GMDA, Guwahati Development Department (GDD) and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have totally failed to deal with these problems, the youth body alleged. The AJYCP further said that the agencies like the GMDA and GMC have virtually turned into white elephants.

The AJYCP further said that the GMDA authorities even failed to keep their own office compound clean and such an agency cannot be expected to work for solving the civic problems of the people of Guwahati city.
