AJYCP rally against big dams

By Correspondent

TINSUKIA, July 3 The Tinsukia district committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) organised a large rally against the construction of river dams in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The rally was accompanied by blowing of conch shells, beating of drums, ringing of bells, etc. The protesters shouted slogans against both the Central and State Governments.

The AJYCP activists vowed that they would not allow the construction of big river dams in Arunachal Pradesh, especially on the Dibang, Subansiri, Siang and Lohit rivers, which would endanger the lives and property of the people living in the downstream areas of several districts of Assam.

They pointed out that as the authorities concerned have failed to control even a small project like Ranganadi, they would not be able to control the big river dam projects. These dams will destroy the entire ecological diversity in the downstream areas.

The AJYCP protesters later congregated at the Doomdooma Town Field and organised a public meeting.
