AJYCP condemns Kokrajhar incident

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has strongly condemned the carnage in Kokrajhar on Friday. The organisation stated that the deadly attack on the common people has proved that the government has failed to ensure safety and security of the common people.

The security forces are yet to unearth the truth. We, therefore, demand a judicial probe by an acting High Court judge into the incident. The responsible police and civil top officials should be brought to book for allowing the reign of terror to unleash, a statement said.

Adding that the government has been trying to pacify the angry people by announcing Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia for the next of kin of those killed, the AJYCP said it is not the real solution and demanded effective measures to weed out such acts of terror.

Meanwhile, Expressing grave concern at the repeated incidents of rhino deaths, the AJYCP has demanded immediate resignation of Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma.

It said that the flood-related animal deaths can be prevented by construction of enough number of highlands inside the park. Raising highlands in a quarter of the parks territory and initiating a systematic plantation drive in the area can help the animals escape the flood fury, it added.

Suspecting the involvement of a section of KNP officials, who are closely associated with some powerful political leaders at Dispur, in the incidents of poaching, the AJYCP criticised the governments failure to check the menace. It suggested raising of a territorial army in the line of the Rashtriya Rifles to firmly deal with the rhino poachers.
