GUWAHATI, July 29 - Reacting sharply to the insensitive and insulting comment on the habits of the people of Assam by a site manager of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdevs Patanjali Ayurveda, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today asked the people to boycott Patanjali products.
In an interview to the New York Times, SB Singh, manager of Patanjalis plant in Assam had made several objectionable comments about certain bad habits of the people of Assam like eating non-vegetarian food. The manager had also said that the people did not know how to respect the nation, and so, the company had to conduct workshops to mentally condition them as well as teach values to the locals.
Before making such obnoxious comments, the employees of Patanjali group need to study about the history, culture and society of the State. Culturally, we are far ahead of many other parts of India where social evils like caste system, kangaroo courts, female foeticide and dowry system still prevail. It is a ploy to defame the State on an international platform, which can never be tolerated, AJYCP president Putul Dutta said.
Ayurvedic products have been in existence much before the Yoga Guru launched his company. Now taking advantage of the religious mindsets of the people of India and brandishing its products as Swadeshi, the company is earning huge profit. Its a total business minded institution, which need not teach us values, organizations general secretary Palash Changmai stated.
Also alleging that the Patanjali groups has occupied vast plots of land in the State for setting up their plant due to the current political patronage they are getting, the youth body said that if the group continues to defame the State in future, it would launch a movement to uproot their business from the soil of Assam.
