AJYCP, AASU intensify separate protests against CAA at Nagaon

NAGAON, Jan 11 - Within a few hours after the decision of bringing in the nationwide Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 into force by the Union Home Ministry vide a gazette notification came on Friday night, the district body of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) intensified its massive protest here since midnight on Friday and observed the day as �Black Day�. Protesters also hung hundreds of black flags at various government offices as well as at other places including the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon in the town at night itself. The district body of the organisation also burned the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah this evening here near the Nagaon Natun bazaar Chariali.

The AJYCP also this morning too took out an anti-CAA rally from its district office situated at Nagaon Natun bazaar which traversed throughout the town. Hundreds of protesters from the organisation took part in the rally and reverberated the town with various anti-CAA slogans. During the rally, the protesters said that they would never accept the act.

When the rally reached Nowgong College Police Point Chariali, the police led by OC, Nagaon Sadar, Sailen Deori detained more than 15 agitators including the district president and secretary Deep Moni Bora and Pragjyotish Bania respectively. They were released on bail later in the afternoon.

Meanwhile opposing the notification of the Union Home Ministry, the Nagaon district unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) too took out a massive torchlight rally throughout the town. Hundreds of the protesters rented the air with various slogans and slammed the Union Government for dishonouring the democratic outcry of the indigenous people of the State and the Northeast.
