AJP slams BJP-led govt over problems affecting Assam

By Correspondent

SIVASAGAR, Nov 7 - The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Saturday held a massive public meeting in Sivasagar Natya Mandir which was attended by more than 1,000 party workers.

Former MLA Jagadish Bhuyan and a member of the conveners committee said that none of the problems affecting Assam has been solved during the last five years of the BJP-led government in the state. Flood and erosion problems are still there, poverty is still a central issue, Brahmaputra dredging is still on paper, prices of essential commodities are soaring on a regular basis, and farmers have no avenues to sell their products, he said.

Alleging that the BJP has divided Assam on religious lines, he targeted Minister Himanta Biswa for ridiculing the AJP flag.

AJP convener Chitta Ranjan Basumatary said that the blue colour of the AJP flag represents the planet Earth when looked at from space and also the depth of the blue oceans. The AJP will not let the dreams of millions of Assamese people die an untimely death, and it will revive and restructure every dream of the common man, he said.

AJP chief convener Raju Phukan said that the BJP has sold the country to industrialists, and now the party was afraid of the rise of the AJP. The meeting, presided over by Umesh Gogoi, was attended among others by Subir Mechand Parikhit Baruah, Pradip Borgogain, Abhijit Kamal Bhunya, Niva Dutta, Bisawjit Tipomiya, Jibon Krishna Goswami, Jibon Mili, Rajani Dutta, Rahimuddin Ahmed and Gafranur Rahman.

A 71-member Sivasagar district conveners committee was also formed in the meeting. The party also took out a huge procession before gathering at Sivasagar Natya Mandir.
