By The Assam Tribune

DHEMAJI, Feb 23: A sizeable gathering was witnessed in the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP)’s election meeting held here on Sunday, enthusing the newly-formed regional political party.

More than 20,000 people from every nook and corner of Dhemaji and its surrounding areas came out and participated in the election campaign of the AJP at Telijan Tiniali here.

Addressing the gathering, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, president of Asom Jatiya Parishad, vehemently attacked Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Cabinet Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying that they were trying to destroy the foundation of the Assamese nationality, Assamese language and culture by implementing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) forcefully only to protect their political interests, that too by going back on their words given to the voters at the time of election for protection of ‘jati-mati-bheti’ of the indigenous Assamese people. Terming them as traitors and untrustworthy, Lurinjyoti Gogoi asked them to stop their evil attempt to mislead the people with various fake schemes.

He also called upon all the Assamese people irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex and social status to be united in order to uproot the deceitful BJP government in the forthcoming Assembly election by voting in favour of the newly-formed party.

The gathering was also addressed by the would-be AJP candidate from Dhemaji LAC in the ensuing Assembly poll, Chittaranjan Basumatary. In his speech, Basumatary speculated that his party would surely win in the forthcoming Assembly election and dethrone the BJP. He therefore requested all to be a part of this fight against the BJP and the Congress.

Addressing those present, Ranju Bora, state president of Jatiya Mahila Shakti and Haren Chutia, vice president of AJP, criticised the ruling BJP government and asked all to come out and join the AJP in order to strengthen the regional party so that it is able to defeat the ‘traitor’ BJP in the coming election.

Deben Dutta and Bhabishya Dihingia, Dhemaji district conveners of AJP, also spoke in the meeting.

Earlier, a huge rally with the party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and other leaders was taken out with the participation of more than 7,000 people.

In the meeting, nearly 800 people from AGP, BJP, Gana Shakti and Congress, including BJP leader Manuj Chandi, Gana Shakti leader Paresh Bora and well-known trader of Dhemaji, Dipak Kalita, joined the Asom Jatiya Parishad.
