AIUDF wins Dhubri, Barpeta, Karimganj

GOALPARA, May 16 � The president of the AIUDF party Badruddin Ajmal who won the Dhubri HPC has been able to retain the top spot for the 4 Dhubri HPC in the district with a total of 1,52,481 votes polled in his favour followed by Wajed Ali Choudhury of Indian National Congress who was polled 1,16,040 votes though Dr Debamoy Sanyal of the BJP was able to manage a sizeable chunk votes was polled 85,326 votes even though he remained a distant third in the final tally in the district.

But visible and distinctive trends started emerging by afternoon after the counting began on an optimistic note at 8 am today and according to the official information the AIUDF party has been able to consolidate a large base of minority votes while the Congress party just trailed behind the AIUDF party in all the 3 LAC under Dhubri HPC whereas a noticeable feature is that the BJP candidate Dr Sanyal has been able to notch the top spot by getting major vote share polled in his favour in the Goalpara East constituency even without having any credible leadership nor organisational base at the local level.

According to the official sources the vote shares of the 3 LAC segments are as follows:-

Under Goalpara (East): Badruddin Ajmal (AIUDF) polled 47,461 votes, Wajed Ali Choudhury (INC) polled 43,057 votes, Dr Debamoy Sanyal (BJP) polled 48,600 votes.

Under Goalpara (West): AIUDF polled 46,107 votes, INC polled 36,195, BJP polled 27,318 votes and under Jaleswar LAC: AIUDF polled 59,003 votes, INC polled 36,788 votes, BJP polled 9,408 votes.

Barpeta Correspondent adds: The AIUDF won the Barpeta Lok Sabha seat. The AIUDF candidate Sirajuddin Ajmal defeated his nearest rival Chandra Mohan Patowary of BJP by a convincing margin of 42,341 votes.

Sirajuddin Ajmal secured 3,94,580 votes while Chandra Mohan managed to secure 3,52,239 votes. Sitting MP and Congress candidate Ismail Hussain managed to secure third position with 2,77,611 votes. All together 15 candidates were in the fray all other 12 candidates including Phani Bhushan Choudhury of AGP had to forfeited their security deposit.

Hailakandi Correspondent adds: AIUDF candidate Radheshyam Biswas has won the Karimganj (SC) parliamentary constituency by defeating BJP candidate Krishna Das by the margin of 1,20,094 votes.

Biswas has got 3,62,605 votes while Das has got 2,60,347 votes. Sitting two times MP Lalit Mohan Suklavaidya of Congress was placed third and got 2,26,064 votes. The declaration of final results was delayed due to the EVM malfunctioning in one of the booths of Patherkandi LAC in Karimganj district. In Hailakandi district, AIUDF got 1,44,316 votes while BJP and Congress have got 87,664 and 84,308 votes respectively.
