AIUDF wants EC ban on pre-poll survey

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 2 - Terming them as unscientific and lacking credibility, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has called upon the Election Commission (EC) to ban all pre-poll surveys and opinion polls till the counting of votes in the forthcoming Assembly elections are over.

Dr Aditya Langthasa, working president of AIUDF, said in a statement that some recent pre-poll surveys have shown that the BJP-led alliance is heading towards big gain in the polls.

He said that such surveys are not based on reality. Langthasa added that such surveys are politically motivated and conducted with the intention of influencing public opinion in the run-up to the elections.

The AIUDF leader said that similar pre-poll surveys conducted in recent years across various parts of the country have turned out to be incorrect and pointed to the results of the Assembly elections in Delhi and Bihar as examples.

Dr Langthasa said that there is a question mark over the credibility and scientific accuracy of such surveys and demanded that EC ban such polls till the counting of votes is completed.
