GUWAHATI, Dec 12 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has said it will file a petition in the Supreme Court against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).
Aiudf supremo Badruddin Ajmal today started consultations with a group of legal experts in this regard.
AIUDF general secretary Haidor Hussain said the party will soon file the petition.
�We have discussed the CAB with various legal luminaries and all have opined that the law will not stand legal scrutiny. The ruling BJP may have been able to get the CAB passed in Parliament, but it violates various provisions of the Constitution. So we are optimistic that the apex court will declare the CAB as unconstitutional,� he said.
He added that the AIUDF has declared support to the ongoing protests in the State against the CAB. �However, we call upon everyone to maintain the democratic tradition of the protests. Nobody should resort to vandalism,� Bora said.
He said that the government is unlikely to heed the voice of the protesters. �The government does not care for the views of the people of the State. So, the Supreme Court is our resort,� the AIUDF leader said.
SAKP support to CAB: The Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has extended support to the 10-hour sit-in called by the AASU here tomorrow.
SAKP leader Bashab Kalita said that the employees� body has extended its support to the sit-in being called by the AASU in protest against the CAB.
