GUWAHATI, Nov 27 - Expressing concern over reported atrocities on the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar, the All India United Democratic Front has called upon the Central government to initiate steps to take up the matter with Myanmar. The AIUDF has submitted a memorandum in this regard to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
�... we like to apprise you of our concern over the latest state of affairs relating to the inhumane atrocities on the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, which has caught the eye of international organisations and bears great concern for human beings worldwide... India is a secular country and always stands with the plight of the minorities in neighbouring countries. India is playing a vital role in the overall development of South East Asia as a big brother. When the issue of the Rohingya Muslims has become an international issue, we feel India should come forward with a positive attitude in the greater interest of international peace,� stated the memorandum.
It added: �We would like to urge upon your good offices to initiate (sic) to bring an end of the plight (sic) of Rohingya Muslims through bilateral discussion with the Myanmar government and to place the issue in the international platform for establishing global peace and tranquility.�
The AIUDF said that since 2015 brutal attacks are being perpetrated on the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar, forcing them to seek refuge in the neighbouring countries.
�This has resulted in loss of hundreds of lives of innocent people, including in overcrowded boat tragedy (sic). As estimated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, hundreds of Rohingya Muslim died in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand...,� it said.
The memorandum added that in October 2015 researchers from the international state crime initiative at Queen Mary University of London released a report of leaked government documents that revealed increasing �ghettoization, sporadic massacres and restriction on movement� on Rohingya people.
