AIIMS doctors visit Mamoni, condition still critical

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 Noted academic and writer Dr Mamoni Raisam Goswamis health condition remains a matter of serious concern for doctors treating her at Gauhati Medical College Hospital where she was admitted on February 12 night.

Today she was examined by two senior doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Ahutosh Biswas and Dr RK Batra. The consultants, who arrived following a request from the State Government, have approved of the treatment protocol being pursued by their counterparts in GMCH.

According to Dr MM Deka, Principal and Chief Superintendent, GMCH, a scan was performed on Dr Goswami, and it detected infarction in a part of the brain. Doctors believe that it could have happened while she was suffering from hypoxia.

A doctor attending on the Jnanppith awardee said that her blood pressure and pulse rate is stable but it is still early to say whether she is responding to medication. Another day or two would be required to state that with certainty, he said.

A number of Dr Goswamis admirers have visited the GMCH to enquire about her health. Today in the evening, Dr Bhupen Hazarika made a visit, expressing hope that the distinguished writer would make a speedy recovery.

ULFA Commander in Chief, Paresh Barua in an email also conveyed a get-well message to Dr Goswami.
