BOKAKHAT, Dec 25 � The 9th death anniversary of Aideu Handique, the first cine actress who played the role of Joymoti was observed at Kamargaon under the aegis of Kamargaon branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha on December 18 while the Khumtain branch of the Sahitya Sabha also organised a function at Khumtai.
Golaghat district Sahitya Sabha took all initiative for celebrating the day. Pradip Borah garlanded the statue of Aideu Handique while a prayer meet was also held at the burrial place.
The reminiscential meeting held at Khumtai LP School was presided over by Kesav Saikia, president of Golaghat district Sahitya Sabha. Dr Ranjit Das, Principal of Jaya Gogoi College inaugurated the meeting with a keynote address highlighting the bold step of Aideu Handique, the icon of Assamese society.
In addition, competion on drawing and painting, essay writing were also organised among the students.
