By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Sept 12 - The ruling Congress in Assam appears to have gone into the election mode, with the AICC constituting seven vital party committees.

The decision to constitute the committees was taken last month at a meeting chaired by party vice president Rahul Gandhi and attended by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Anjan Dutta, as part of a strategy to boost the morale of workers after the exit of several MLAs from the party.

The committees appointed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi here yesterday, included the Coordination, Election Coordination, Campaign, Manifesto, Publicity, Media and Communication, and Disciplinary committees.

The 10-member Coordination Committee will be headed by general secretary in-charge of Assam Dr CP Joshi, and includes secretary Avinash Pande, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the APCC chief, and Congress Working Committee member Dr Hemo Prova Saikia, among others.

The Election Coordination committee will be headed by Anjan Dutta, while the Manifesto Committee will be led by Rajya Sabha member Bhubaneswar Kalita. Former Union minister Paban Singh Ghatowar has been named as the chairman of the Campaign Committee. Pradyut Bordoloi will head the Publicity Committee and the Media and Communication Committee will be handled by Rajya Sabha member Pankaj Bora.

Senior Congressman Bishnu Prasad has been made the chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. The five-member committee also includes Dr Bhumidhar Barman and Dr Hemo Prova Saikia.
