AHSEC goes on reforms mode post paper leak

GUWAHATI, March 21 - Rattled by the �leak� of three question papers and an inquiry panel report that indicated at a nexus between its officials and private institutions, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) today went on a reforms mode, holding three back-to-back meetings.

However, the council�s chairman Dr Dayananda Borgohain remained tight-lipped on the decisions taken, saying it needs to be endorsed by the executive committee which will sit on March 29.

The examination committee, academic committee and administrative committee met at the council headquarters today.

Dr Borgohain said that the council has decided to relieve Jyoti Kalita from the charge of examination controller. Kalita, who is deputy secretary (administration) was holding the charge of examination controller.

Council�s secretary Kamaljyoti Gogoi will be in charge of the examination controller�s post till a full-fledged person is appointed.

Meanwhile, a fourth grade employee Harendranath Deka was also placed under suspension today.

�We have been getting reports that he has been irregular in his duty. Even today, he was found to be absent without information. He has been placed under suspension,� the chairman said.

The council�s chairman also informed that though the recognition of Goalpara�s Science Academy has been withdrawn, the eleventh standard students of the college will be able to appear for their exams in a nearby institute.
