GUWAHATI, Feb 2 � A division bench of the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) comprising Dr Justice Aftab H Saikia, Chairperson, and Tarun Phookan, Member, took suo moto cognizance of a news item published in a number of local newspapers on�February 1, and directed to issue notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, to institute an inquiry into the incident of an alleged police assault on a lady journalist.
The probe is to be conducted by an officer of the Government not below the rank of a Commissioner & Secretary, and the probe should submit the report before the Commission within 30 days.
The Commission, taking cognizance of the news item, registered a case, No. AHRC 1231/9/14-15.
