AHRC reduces number of days of hearing

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 - The Assam Human Rights Commissions (AHRC) new initiative to clear the huge number of pending cases is facing an obstruction due to the shortage of stenographers. The shortage has made the AHRC reduce the days of hearing to four days a week from today.

After remaining headless and also dysfunctional for a prolonged period, the Commission, with the appointment of Justice T Vaiphei, former Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura, as its chairman in May 2018, had decided to increase the hearing days from four days in a week to five days a week, with the period extending from Monday to Friday instead of Monday to Thursday, as practised earlier.

However, due to shortage of stenographers, the Commission has decided to revert to the old practice of the sitting from Monday to Thursday with effect from 24.08.2018, a communiqu issued from the Commission said here.
