Ahom forum ends 100-hr hunger strike

SIVASAGAR, March 24 - The 100-hour hunger strike by activists of the Ahom National People�s Forum (ANPF) in front of the historic Rang-ghar here ended today.

The ANPF staged the hunger strike demanding immediate repair of the dilapidated Jagaddhatri Doul in Kalogaon, removal of the CRPF camp from the bank of the historic Joysagar Borpukhuri within 15 days to facilitate easy passage of tourists to the site, removal of all ONGC godowns from the banks of Na-Pukhuri and Purani Pukhuri in Rudrasagar, opening of the Rudra Shingha Park on the bank of Joysagar Bopukhuri for the visitors, restoration of the beauty and sanctity of the historic Talatal Ghar by evicting all encroachers, closure of a restaurant situated on the bank of Joysagar Pukhuri, declaration of Sivasagar town as Tourism Township and declaration of total expenses incurred by the ONGC in preservation and protection of the historical monuments in the district.

Mahendra Dihingia, president of the central committee of the ANPF, Pabitra Gogoi, district committee president and Pulakesh Gogoi and Montu Gogoi, joint secretaries said in a release that the Archaeological Survey of India and State Archaeological Department have shown utter negligence towards the relics and monuments of Ahom era in the district since a long time.
