RAHA, Jan 7 � The lai-khuta, the ceremonial main post for the 43rd Ahatguri buffalo fight, scheduled to be held on January 15-16, was installed at the Bezbaroa playground on Monday.
The installation ceremony was conducted by Numal Das, a senior teacher of the locality in the presence of all members of the Ahatguri Buffalo Fight Celebration Committee.
The two -day event includes hoisting of bihu flag, taking pitha-jalpaan, art competition and Bhagavat reading on the first day. The second day�s programme includes lighting of ceremonial lamp, followed by annual buffalo fight from 9 am, prize distribution and cultural night. The buffalo fight will be inaugurated by litterateur Noni Gopal Mahanta. Singer Babu will be performing at the cultural night , the organisers said.
It is pertinent to mention here that buffalo fight has been an interesting game in undivided Nagaon district on the occasion of Magh Bihu since a long time.
At Ahatguri in Morigaon district, the birth place of Lakshminath Bezbaroa, the buffalo fight began in 1972. For the villagers at Ahatguri, buffalo fights are not only a tradition organised for pure entertainment during Magh Bihu, but it also acts as a meeting ground for people from all religious faiths.
