DIMAPUR, June 15 Concerned over the continuing violence in the Assam-Nagaland border belt that threatens to cause serious damage to the relationship between the two neighbouring States, a team from Assam Gana Parishad, arrived here on a peace mission and held a meeting with Lotha Hoho Dimapur (LHD) and Wokha-Golaghat District Friendship Forum.
The AGP team was led by its working president Atul Bora and general secretary Pradip Hazarika while the Wokha-Golaghat District Friendship Forum was led by Capt (Rtd) T Nath and Ntsemo Ngullie, who is also the chairman of Lotha Hoho Dimapur.
Addressing a joint news conference after the meeting, AGP leader Bora said they had a threadbare discussion on the border violence. Some unpleasant incidents have been frequently taking place (in the border area). So we feel that we should try to find out some solutions to these problems so that such incidents do not occur in the near future, he said while adding that any solution could be achieved only through exchange of dialogue.
He informed that the June 11 incident at Merapani near D-sector Kulajan and May
26 incident at Uriamghat side were discussed at the meeting.
He felt that only police, administration and government cannot bring peace in the border. Local people should connect, Bora said.
