AGP to sit in opposition in Assembly

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 22 - Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which recently snapped its ties with the BJP, has decided to sit in the Opposition benches in the Assam Legislative Assembly.

AGP general secretary and MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita said that a letter has been handed over to Legislative Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami seeking separate seating arrangement for the regional partys legislators inside the House.

The Budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence from January 28.

We will sit in the Opposition benches. We have informed the Speaker of the Assembly regarding our decision and requested him to allot separate seats for our MLAs inside the House, Kalita said.

AGP has earlier this month snapped ties with the BJP on the issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The three ministers of the AGP in the Sarbananda Sonowal ministry had submitted their resignations.

However, Sonowal is yet to forward the resignations of the three ministers to the Governor.

We have been demanding that the Chief Minister should forward the resignation of our ministers to the Governor without any further delay, Kalita said.
