AGP to oppose land swap deal

GUWAHATI, July 28 � Reiterating its stand against the India-Bangladesh land swap deal, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has accused the Centre of attempting to table the Constitutional Amendment Bill in the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament and said it will oppose any such move.

AGP publicity secretary Manoj Saikia in a statement called upon the people to join hands for building public opinion to ensure that �not even an inch� of the State�s land is handed over to Bangladesh.

He said that the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister has already visited New Delhi to lobby for early ratification of the deal.

Saikia said that during the Budget session of Parliament the Government was unable to table the Constitutional Amendment Bill for ratification of the treaty due to protest by AGP MPs.
