GUWAHATI, Jan 5 The central general council meeting of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today decided to launch an intense campaign in view of the forthcoming municipal body, town committee and autonomous council elections in the State.

The meeting constituted a sub-committee with Phani Bhushan Choudhury as president and Ramendra Narayan Kalita as convenor for devising and implementing the partys strategy for the polls. Thrust was accorded on a vigorous election drive comprising publicity and campaigning through various modes including meeting, postering, etc.

As part of the campaign, a month-long mass signature collection drive will begin on January 20. The drive will focus on highlighting the corruption and mis-governance by the Congress Government in the State and the anti-people policies and acts of the BJP Government at the Centre such as the land-swap deal with Bangladesh, go-ahead to big dams in Arunachal Pradesh, etc.

Strengthening of the party and bringing back leaders like Padma Hazarika and activating all the inactive leaders were also emphasised.
